Will the Stewardess Make Me Turn Off a Kindle?

March 2nd, 2008 · 4 Comments

Serious question… does anyone have experience? I’ve been seriously thinking of investing in an Amazon Kindle, but I’ve been curious if I’d be asked to turn it off during take-off and landing. Any experience?

+1 to what Alan wrote. You can turn off Whispernet (kindle's wireless service) during take-off and landing and that'll ensure it's not transmitting and can't interfere with the plane. You can show the stewardess that the wireless is off.

I’ve had no problems probably because the screen isn’t backlit like a laptop or iPhone. The e-ink screen looks like paper especially if one keeps the Kindle in it’s case. I also keep the transmit switch in the off postion while on a plane.

Thanks for the responses. Looks like a Kindle is in my future! Thanks again.
