My father would have been 68 today. He died a few months short of his 51st birthday, now nearly 20 years ago. He was one of those people that could light up a room by just walking in. If I can bring just half of the joy to those around me that he did, I’m honoring his legacy. The world is truly a poorer place without him.
Les would have adored social media. I remember as a kid being irritated waiting for him to finish talking to everyone: his boss, a waiter, the guy behind the counter at the Dairy Queen or the woman who did our ironing. It didn’t matter. Les didn’t just make time, he opened up to everyone he met. When you’re eight years old, that just means lots of waiting, and it’s hard. As you get older, you watch what that means to people, and you learn from it. If Les could have been on Twitter, he would have had thousands of followers, and he’d follow them all back. And he would have loved every minute of it.
Still miss you every day, Les. I learned so very much from you. Thanks for everything.
Your loving son,
Doyle
