I just got word from our friend Marie Rotter at Xcel Energy that Joe Fuentes passed away last night. The Denver PR community—in fact, our community as a whole—lost a wonderful person.
Our thoughts are with his wife, Chris, and his entire family. As Jeremy Story said on the Denver PR Blog yesterday, “Life can be cruel, and that someone as good and caring as Joe has cancer is proof of that.” I’ll second that.
We miss you already, Joe.

Thank you all for sharing your heartfelt memories of our dear friend and mentor, Joe. I've been part of Joe's fan club for a very long time. I'm honored to have been one of his proteges in the Coors Corp Comm dept., and cherish how he touched my life long after I moved on to other work at Coors. Although I've remained with the company while many brilliant co-workers persued other interests, few have been missed as much as Joe. His legacy lives on in many ways. My condolences go out to his wife Chris and their children and extended family.

I met Joe in May 2000 when we joined the PR dept at StorageTek–just after his tenure with Coors. I will always remember his gentle style and his smile, his love for his family and his commitment to his profession. He loved teaching others—giving of himself. We are so lucky we had him with us. I will miss him every day.

Joe was one of a kind… emphasis on "kind." A good and honorable man that valued his family, friends and community above all else.
Because God loves us, he takes those we love rather than allowing us to give them up… otherwise we'd never give them up.
Chris and kids – you're in our thoughts and prayers.

Thank you for all of your wonderful memories and "life lessons" that Joe instilled in you. I had the pleasure of interning with Joe at Coors out of college and could relate to all of the things you mentioned in your tribute (however we were working on computer by then!). To this day, I still reference my AP Stylebook just to make sure I'm writing the way that Joe taught me.
Like you, I was very lucky to have worked with him. I was on vacation until today and just found out about his passing. It's incredibly sad and we've all lost a great friend and mentor. My thoughts and prayers go out to Chris and his family. Thank you for sharing your memories in such a wonderful tribute.
